  2. I’ve just started your 5 keys online course and have signed up for Bruce’s meditation circle and I’m wondering what suggestions you have for a cohesive practice that would combine both of them.
    I live near Chicago and want to start studying tai chi chuan with a local instructor that is certified by Energy Arts so I’m working turning this practice into actual martial arts

    • The material in the Meditation Circle is meant to help you increase awareness and anchor the mind in the body, whereas the Five Keys exercises are designed to promote health and healing. The combination of the two is an excellent method for initiating the various streams within the Taoist arts. As far as your local tai chi class, try to take as much as you can from these two programmes and implement it into your practice. With three areas of focus, you will juggle quite a lot of material and you may find that it becomes too much or that one or two streams get put on the back burner. Don’t panic! Train the material at your own pace and let your practice grow and develop.

  3. Hi, my name is Marcos Lopez and I had a question about the single palm change. I heard Bruce Frantiz say that originally all the taoist monks practiced was the single palm change. I was wondering what you would recommend if I wanted to practice in the old ways with just the single palm change. I have found circle walking improves my health greatly and increase my chi manifold. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated.

    • Hi Marcos, Thanks for your message. Paul teaches a regular Circle Walking & the Single Palm Change (SPC) programme on select Mondays in Islington, London, see He also occasionally offers retreats in Andalusia, Spain, as well as private tuition in London, Germany and Spain. Due to the nature, depth and intricacies involved with learning and training the art of bagua, he feels strongly that live instruction is the only way to learn the SPC. So if you don’t see him, he recommends seeing the most qualified teacher you can find and researching the background of their system as many teach fusion methods and most teach bagua zhang (rather than the monastic tradition). Hello Paul, My name is Roshan and I am 53 years old and have done some tai chi in the pass but now i am seriously looking to get back into practicing since my blood pressure goes up when i do not take medication which is concidered to be low dosage by my doctor. I recently purchase the Bagua Mastery Course and your 5 keys online course and i am thinking of getting the Opening Energy Course. I find these courses very interesting and would like your advice on how to go about incorperating these practices into a schedule – how much time should i spend doing these, which should i do first, etc. Also what is your tought about doing regular calisthenics like pushup and squats, etc.

    • Thanks for your note, Roshan. Paul provides a suggested training schedule in his 5 Keys programme, which you can download from the menu on the right-hand side of the page once you log in to your account. As to what to train and for how long, that is highly individual. He can’t really advise you without seeing you and how you’re practising as there are many factors that come into play. He says the main concern should be the quality of practice rather than how much any given person trains. Best fo luck to you.
